From July 20 to 25, Arm Cyber Kids children’s robotics team, the winner of the 2016 national stage of the World Robot Olympiad (WRO), participated in the 18th World Adolescent Robotics Competition (WARC) held in Guiyang City, China.
The Armenian children took part in the competition at the invitation of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), the organizer of the competition, which covered all participation related expenses, including accommodation and flights. In total, over 60 World Robot Olympiad teams and over 40 First Global Challenge teams from various countries were invited to participate in the competition.
The Arm Cyber Kids team, which includes two members, sister and brother, 12-year-old Ines Gasparyan and 10-year-old Ashot Gasparyan, competed in the Regular Elementary category where their robot struggled against the robots of 26 teams. After the tough competition, the team won the 6th place. The team’s coach was their father. The team from Russia won the first place in the Regular Elementary category; they were followed by teams from China that took the 2nd through 5th places.
This year, the WRO teams competed in the following categories: WRO Regular Elementary, WRO Regular Junior, and WRO Open.
The children were given the possibility to participate in the competition thanks to their participation in the WRO national stage, since to participate in the World Adolescent Robotics Competition, participants should have participated in the WRO national stage in their country and have had their country organizer’s confirmation of it. The official and only licensed organizer of the WRO in Armenia is the Ayb Educational Foundation. The Creative Educational Technologies (CET) is the partner and sponsor of the WRO in Armenia.
