From November 16 to 18, Arm Cyber Kids, the winner of the 2018 national stage of the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) held in Armenia by the Ayb Educational Foundation, will travel to Thailand to represent Armenia in the WRO international final.
The Arm Cyber Kids team will compete in the Regular Elementary category. The team comprises siblings, 12-year-old Ines Gasparyan and 11-year-old Ashot Gasparyan. They have created a robot that sorts fruits based on their quality or appearance.
“We have worked really hard on creating our robot and thus successfully representing our team. We look forward to seeing the robots of other teams and getting to know other peers that love Lego as much as we do. We believe it will be very interesting,” said the children.
This year's WRO theme is Food Matters. This theme has been chosen because of the problem of undernourishment across the world, where one in nine people today (795 million people) is undernourished. And the possible solution to it can be the use of technologies to help grow more and better food and reduce food waste.
WRO 2017 had 400 participant teams from over 60 countries, competing in four categories.
“The number of participating teams is expected to be large this year as well. And even with such a high participation rate we believe that the Armenia team will represent our country with honor,” said Anna Mkhitaryan, Coordinator at the School Contests Department of the Ayb Educational Foundation, wishing confidence and good luck to the team.
The Arm Cyber Kids was the first to win the 1st WRO national stage in Armenia (the team won in 2016) and it is the second time the team will represent our country in the international stage.
