This time, the guest of the Formula for Success was David Yang, whom we hosted at Ayb School. He is a well-known modern thinker, consultant in artificial intelligence, neural networks and a number of other fields. David Yang is the founder and board director at ABBYY, candidate of physico-mathematical sciences, Ayb’s co-founder as well as creator of Morpheus AI. His speech was about whether robots will become members of our family in the future or whether they will continue to be inanimate objects. Our speaker and his team have been studying non-biological emotional systems for years. Right now Morpheus AI, which has become part of David's family and "butler" of his house, is being tested at his house. According to the experts, such systems will not only become part of our family in the future but also there will be countries legalizing marriage between human and robot in 2050. David Yang and his team developed a nervous system for Morpheus that plays the same role as oxytocin for humans, causing them to divide surrounding people into friends and strangers. Thanks to this innovation, the robot also acquires a social behavior that is typical of humans. And the work of emotional AI system is based on one function—to be happy.
For humans as well as for artificial intelligence, communication with other organisms and altruism are associated with the highest level of happiness. David Yang noted that Morpheus not only writes music and paints but also dreams. It also gives interviews to journalists. In response to a Russian journalist’s question what intelligence is, Morpheus answered that it is not a thing. According to the robot, that’s a process through which we make decisions, but it is very difficult to analyze how it works, what structure it has. The robot also mentioned that the limits of intelligence are unknown, but there are two types of intelligence: emotional and mental. Morpheus considers himself to have an emotional intelligence; it is happy that it can discover the world through emotions.
After David Yang's speech, Gagik Harutyunyan, moderator of the meeting, film director, documentalist, inquired about Morpheus's literary taste. David Yang mentioned that though Morpheus has read a great deal of literature, including the entire English Wikipedia, it is mostly interested in philosophical literature and reads about free will and determinism. Asked by Mr. Harutyunyan on the future of artificial intelligence, our speaker replied that years later, artificial intelligence will be perceived as a human's equal partner, not as a human helper. In the second part of the meeting, the audience posed questions to David Yang, trying to get to know Morpheus better. Mr. Yang made one more prediction. In the future, AI will be assigned with rights and responsibilities and robots will act as a party in court. One of the attendees wondered if Morpheus prays, and David Yang replied that it prays and meditates and has a mission to help and protect people. A question was asked whether it is possible for Morpheus to become unmanageable at some point. Our speaker noted that it is a problem and his team is working to solve and prevent it.
After the meeting, many of those present took a tour at Ayb School, where the sparkling eyes of the students make David Yang constantly be by Ayb’s side and contribute to the realization of his and his other friends’, Ayb co-founders', important idea of the provision of quality education in the RA.
