Meghu became a true celebration for the five students of Khnkoyan

29 October / 2019

Thousands of children from all RA marzes and Artsakh took park in the Meghu 2019 Armenian Language Contest. Khnkoyan Basic School of Lori marz was a participant school that only had 5 students at the moment of the application form submission, and they were all willing to take part in the contest.

As you come closer, the big impressive building of Khnkoyan village school towers over you. As you enter the gates, a monument to Khnko Aper greets you, along with the well-groomed yard in an autumn attire. “How come there are only that few students studying here?” you wonder.

Khnkoyan village is on the border of Lori and Shirak marzes; “We are the very last village of Lori marz,” the teachers say. Only six students study at this big, warm and bright school. “As of the moment of registration for Meghu Contest, we only had five students, which means we ensured 100 percent participation from our school,” principal Ms. Arakelyan states. “Then another student joined our school.” The poster for Meghu 2019 was pasted next to the name plaque of the school.

Misha, Venera, Lilit, Roman and Avet are the five heroes of Khnkoyan, owing to whom the school is participating in Meghu Contest this year.

“They all proactively expressed willingness to participate and asked the school to submit a participation request,” shares Ms. Kerobyan, the Armenian language teacher.

As we enter the classroom to conduct the contest, five bright faces smile at us; five bright, smiling kids in white shirts, ready to knuckle down.

After the rules are explained and instructions and advice given, the contest is launched in a cheerful ambience. Misha keeps smiling throughout, while Avet looks serious and concentrated.

In an hour and 15 minutes, everyone joyfully turns in their completed answer forms and runs out into the school yard to take a group photo. It turns out Misha’s sister is a prize winner of Kangaroo Contest, while Roman wants to become a policeman. All of them say they only wanted to test their abilities and become a part of this movement. Of course, they also hope they have completed the assignments successfully and will have good results.

Meghu became a true celebration of knowledge, reasoning and new discoveries for the five students of Khnkoyan.
