On March 23, the Loft hosted the “Free, Online and Accessible; Learn with Khan” event. Where to start, why start and how to learn with Khan? The event involving answers to these questions aimed to make the opportunities enabled by Khan Academy more accessible to teachers, students, parents and simply those interested in self-learning. It should be reminded that the Ayb Educational Foundation is implementing a project on translation and creation of electronic resources, within the scope of which Khan Academy Armenia has been functioning since 2017.
During the event, the young Khan Academy team presented all the opportunities of this platform, specificities linked to localization of its sections, the importance of volunteer work, as well as skills required to make use of the educational videos. A number of motivated teachers, students and general public attended and actively participated in the meeting. The attendees described Khan Academy as one of the most efficient and convenient learning platforms to fill the gaps in one’s education and ensure quality learning. In the teachers’ opinion, Khan Academy is the best option for students not attending classes due to various reasons to catch up with the school curriculum and prepare for the classes online.
Gayane Aramyan, head of Khan Academy Armenia, presented Khan’s mission and history of localization of the educational materials. She mentioned her team is currently working on the creation of new sections. In line with the suggestions voiced at the event regarding the creation and translation of educational materials for new subjects and sections, it was proposed Khan Academy might be used for learning languages as well. “There are a number of projects we are excited to work on and call to life. Similar events are envisaged for the nearest future to raise awareness on Khan Academy so that a greater number of people can make use of its opportunities. We attach utmost importance to the accessibility of the platform for everyone who wishes to learn,” Gayane Aramyan was glad to state.
