This year marks the 10th anniversary of the All-Armenian Tournament of Young Chemists. For already a decade, the tournament has been a celebration in the field of chemistry, bringing together hundreds of children from the schools in Armenia and Artsakh, as well asfield specialists and experts. On November 30, the quarterfinals of the All-Armenian Tournament of Young Chemists were launched, in which 40 teams from 29 schools of Armenia and Artsakh competed to determine the strongest. As a result of an intensive and fascinating struggle, 17 teams made it through to the semifinals, where more complex chemistry problems and a more stubborn struggle are expected. All the 40 teams participating in the tournament received certificates of honor and small incentive souvenirs.
The tournament was held in a fairly cheerful, inspiring and scientific ambience. Narek Petrosyan, the former lead of the Photon team, who now serves in the armed forces of Artsakh, visited his teammates, while Mrs. Astghik came to cheer for her granddaughter Astghik. In the jury’s opinion, the teams participation in the tournament was very strong this year, with general knowledge development growing more and more noticeable each year.
283 teams have participated in the tournament to date (including the teams registered for the 2019-2020 tournament), involving 1415 students and over 280 teachers. For three successive years, the Ayb Educational Foundation has provided our children with an opportunity to represent themselves and our country in the international arena via participation in the All-Ukrainian Tournament of Young Chemists. The children have returned with third-grade diplomas and individual certificates of honor from the last two tournaments.
The semifinals and finals of the 10th tournament will be held in May 2020. Meanwhile, the Ayb Educational Foundation will conduct a seminar for chemistry teachers to present all the nuances of the contest and help better and more efficiently prepare for all the rounds of the tournament.
Based on the successful experience of the All-Armenian Tournament of Young Chemists, the All-Armenian Open Tournament for Chemistry Students will be additionally held for the first time in 2020.
