“Why return to Armenia? Because we feel happy here!” - Vardan Marashlian

15 February / 2019

“Why return to Armenia?” and “How to integrate into a new environment?”; Vardan Marashlian, co-founder and executive director of Repat Armenia and guest speaker of the Formula of Success platform initiated by the Ayb Educational Foundation shared answers to these and other questions. Repat Armenia is an organization aiming to deal with repatriates' problems and to discover new opportunities for them, along with breaking stereotypes and inspiring through success stories, only to show obstacles can be overcome. The foundation works with around 6500 repatriates both from the historical diaspora and certain strata of the newly established diasporas. As a result, a large community has emerged where people help each other cope with new circumstances and laws.

A repatriate well aware of the challenges associated with returning to homeland and generally finding new work and occupation in a new environment, Vardan Marashlian is still positive one’s future is to be built in one’s own land. He has a special formula, which says: “Not only be a happy individual but also make an impact on the development of your country.”  In his speech about his experience and the decision to repatriate, the guest outlined the main factors that shaped the final decision; “I simply cannot wait until the field is stable; instead, I want to partake in stabilizing it! What is more, I want to be part of my country’s development,” he said. In response to the meeting participants’ questions, Mr. Marashlian spoke about the institutional approach toward the relations with the Diaspora, attaching particular importance to the fact that the integration environment is rather favorable in Armenia now, with communication between Armenia and Diaspora increasing year by year, which in turn contributes to repatriation.

Vardan Marashlian advised the participants to go for higher risks and bigger dreams, be more proactive and flexible, as well as answered all the follow-up questions.
